“Election Day ought to be the day that every single person is equal to everybody else. We're an imperfect country, yes, we have injustices, but we believe that everyone should have an equal right to control the destiny of the country."
--E.J. Dionne, NYT Columnist, Georgetown Professor

The election is only a few weeks away. In honor of National Voter Education Week (October 5-9), ClassACT HR73 encourages all American citizens to make a plan to participate in the November 3rd elections.
Educate Yourself about ongoing efforts to obstruct free and fair elections. View the video and resources from our September forum Democracy at 250: Is Your Midterm Vote at Risk?. In this email, we include quotes from the forum moderator, E.J. Dionne, as well as panelists Sherrilyn Iffil, Seth Waxman and Wendy Weiser.
The Federal government has made no secret of its intention to impede the elections by:
- restricting information
- limiting access to the polls
- intimidating citizens from voting
- creating an atmosphere of fear for election officials
- interfering with the collecting, counting, and certifying of ballots
- filing suits claiming fraud and irregularities
The time to take action is NOW.

“This is a singular threat to our democratic form of government. Everyone can do their part to make it likely that the wheels won’t come off the bus.”

“This is a moment that is calling on us to demonstrate a higher level of citizenship. You will hold elected officials accountable if they allow this [election] to collapse into something not befitting a democracy.”
--Sherrilyn Iffil, Former Director, NAACP Legal Defense Fund

VOTE EARLY. Do not leave your vote to the last minute or the pace of the US Postal Service. If you like voting in person, check if your state has early voting, If it does, use it. If you mail your ballot, do so at least a week before election day. Better yet, check if your state has ballot drop-boxes. If it does, avoid any potential delay by using one of those rather than the Postal Service.

“This is a time when your country, your community needs you to step up and do something. You can help other people register and vote. You can help other people learn the rules of voting and feel free from intimidation. You can be a poll worker, you can be a poll watcher, you can volunteer with an organization. Just pick something to do, commit to doing it and don't stay on the sidelines.”
--Wendy Weiser, Vice President, Brennan Center for Justice
